The Local Colors Festival brings many different cultures together in one place. Attendees experience cuisine, performances, and displays from around the world. Children learn about other cultures through the passport program. It is a free event; no charge to attend. This year's theme at the Kids Korner is welcoming: "A Welcoming Community: The Roanoke Valley!" We will create "keys to the city," friendship bracelets, and paper flags, and play the game "Welcome Packages Race."

Our local council represents the World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) at this multicultural festival via marching in the Parade of Nations and helming the Kids Korner. There are three different ways that Girl Scout troops/girls/families can participate:

  • ATTEND this marvelous multicultural festival! Grab a festival patch for $3 at the Girl Scout display table located in the Kids Korner/children’s activities area.
  • VOLUNTEER at Kids Korner (helping little ones with arts, crafts, games & passports); 2-hour shifts (7:00 AM-7:00 PM); FREE PATCH + LOCAL COLORS INCENTIVE (2024 it was a festival t-shirt; 2025 it was a free vendor lunch). Open to Juniors-Ambassadors Girl Scouts and adult volunteers. REGISTER HERE TO VOLUNTEER (add # of girl/adult vols coming with your troop in "12. Additional Information/Comments" section.)
  • MARCH in the Parade of Nations representing WAGGGS (10:50 AM-11:30 AM); FREE PATCH for marchers (girls & adults). Open to all age-level of Girl Scouts. Wear your Girl Scout vest/sash; we'll provide banners and flags for Girl Scouts to carry. To sign-up, just let us know an estimate of how many girls and adults will march: communications@gsvsc.org
