Millions of pounds of crayons are discarded every year across the United States. The Crayon Initiative collects used and unwanted crayons donated from homes, restaurants, and schools across the country, then melts them down and remanufactures them, reducing environmental waste. Best of all, the recycled crayons are distributed to child life programs at children’s hospitals in all 50 states, to brighten the lives of young patients during their stay. There is a special "Scout Playbook" that includes how to run a successful collection drive, suggested project activities, and fundraising ideas.

This patch program teaches kids how to responsibly explore the great outdoors. It is centered around the seven Leave No Trace Principles for outdoor ethics, and is sure to inspire and educate explorers of all ages. Participants will learn about the principles, gain tips for utilizing them in everyday life, and complete fun activities geared towards getting outside and enjoying the natural landscape.

In the wake of COVID-19, Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline, in collaboration with Katherine L. Brown, Ph.D., an assistant professor at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, has created an Infectious Disease Patch Program. The overall purpose of this patch program is to educate Girl Scouts about infectious diseases, how they are spread, and treatment and prevention of global pandemics.

Oral Health Action Patch Program

Relay for Life Patch

Relay For Life is a community-based event designed to celebrate cancer survivors and honor those who have lost their battle to the disease. While Girl Scouts cannot participate in the fundraising aspect of the relay, they can help out with volunteer activities before, during, and after the event.
