This camp is intended for those looking for a week-long backpacking and
high adventure experience. During the week, the girls will backpack
35-50 miles spread across five days, with each day ending in a
new backcountry outpost camp, where they will participate in a variety
of high adventure activities. The girls will select the
outposts/activities that they wish to participate in and the number of
miles to be hiked. The crew lead (one of the girls) will work with the
ranger at camp arrival to develop the crew's itinerary for the week. In
addition to the backpacking miles and outpost activities, a minimum of
five hours (minimum of 10 hours for 50-miler) of service time will be
completed by the crew. This week-long camp provides the
requirements necessary for the girls to obtain their Outdoor Primitive
Camper (Cadette), Outdoor Adventure Camper (Senior), or Outdoor Survival
Camper (Ambassador) badges, as appropriate.
At least one mandatory planning meeting will be held before the
week-long event. The time and place will be set in a central location
(or virtual) once registration closes. Each girl is expected to
participate in at least one shakedown backpacking trip during the
spring. The cost of the shakedown trip is not included in the High Knoll
event fee. Trips generally cost $30 for a one night backpacking trip.
Backpacks, tents, stoves, and other equipment are provided. Girls will
have the opportunity to earn the Adventurers Boots, Bikes, and Boats
50-miler award.
