Float Your Boat: New River Rendezvous

Kayak 6 miles on the New River from Eggleston to Ripplemead. With towering cliffs lining both sides of the river, including the historic Palisades Cliffs on river right just downstream of the put-in, this section is recognized as one of the MOST SCENIC FLOATS IN ALL OF VIRGINIA!   Short Class I riffles are scattered throughout the float with three Class II rapids. This float is suitable for beginners and intermediate paddlers. Kayaks, PFDs and other necessary gear are provided. Event is led by Adventurers coordinators trained in leading kayaking trips and river safety.

Note: If water levels are too low on this river to float our boats, then we may change our float to another river location (such as the James River). If you are unable to travel to this new location, then refunds will be issued. 

Adults will only be accepted if spaces available are not filled by girls, and only with paddling experience. Please let us know on registration if you will be bringing your own boat and PFD; this is encouraged if you are more comfortable in your own gear. All adults participating must be registered Girl Scouts and background checked. There is a 275 lb. weight limitation recognized for kayaks.

Adventurers Scholarship
Through the generosity of donors, a scholarship fund has been established in honor of our group’s founder, Barbara Duerk, to help girls participate in Adventurers activities. Requests may not be more than $100/year, and each application will be considered on a case by case basis. Details, criteria and application for this scholarship fund can be found here .
