Get outside with Camp Adventurers! Camp Adventurers is an older girl weekend camp open to girls ages 11-18. This camp offers older girls the opportunity to attend camp, not work at camp.
Friday night, Girl Scouts will set up their sleep spaces, have a flag ceremony, eat supper, enjoy some down time getting to know each other and reconnecting with friends, and participate in a camp-wide activity. Saturday, we’ll start with a flag ceremony and breakfast. After making bagged lunches, campers will spend Saturday participating in one of four adventure activities with their patrol:
PADDLE BOARDING PATROL
This patrol will start
their day by hiking over to the lake and learning to setup the
paddle boarding equipment, as well as safety and paddle boarding
basics. After lunch the campers will get to enjoy time paddle
boarding on the lake. This activity requires swimming certification.
CAVING PATROL
This patrol will be visiting the
New River Cave, where they will be led through this gem of Giles
County by a member of the Radford University Outdoor Programs. This
activity will require the participants to be able to squat, crawl,
and be comfortable in tight spaces.
CHALLENGE COURSE PATROL
This patrol will visit
the campus of Radford University to complete their challenge course.
The challenge course will offer a variety of activities through a
series of fun and unusual games and problem-solving obstacles. While
completing this activity, participants learn valuable information
about themselves, effectively working with one another, and
functioning as a team.
CAMP SKILLS/CAMP COOKING PATROL
This patrol will
be staying in camp on Saturday, but that doesn’t mean they will be
missing out on the fun. This patrol will be learning and applying
practical camp skills like orienteering, knot tying, lashing, safe
knife skills, gourmet outdoor cooking, and various methods of fire building.
There will also be some downtime for your Girl Scout to play games, complete self-led arts and crafts projects, color, or just relax. Your Girl Scout will play camp-wide games, put on a skit at the Saturday night campfire, and sleep a second night in her tent. Sunday morning is a Scout’s Own ceremony, more camp-wide activities, reflection time, and program before our closing ceremony at 1:00 PM.
