This camp is intended for those looking for a week-long backpacking and
high adventure experience. During the week, the girls will backpack
35-50 miles spread across five days, with each day ending in a new
backcountry outpost camp, where they will participate in a variety of
high adventure activities. The girls will select the outposts/activities
that they wish to participate in and the number of miles to be hiked.
The crew lead (one of the girls) will work with the ranger at camp
arrival to develop the crew's itinerary for the week. In addition to the
backpacking miles and outpost activities, a minimum of five hours
(minimum of ten hours for Adventurers 50-Miler award) of service time
will be completed by the crew.
This week-long camp experience allows girls to meet the requirements
necessary to obtain their Outdoor Primitive Camper badge(Cadette),
Outdoor Adventure Camper badge (Senior), or Outdoor Survival Camper
badge (Ambassador), as appropriate. Girls will also have the opportunity
to earn the
Adventurers
Boots, Bikes, and Boats 50-Miler award
.
Backpacks, tents, stoves, and other equipment are provided, making this
an economical way to discover the joys of backpacking. At least one
mandatory planning meeting will be held before the week-long event. The
time and place will be set in a central location (or virtual) once
registration closes. Each girl is expected to participate in at least
one shakedown backpacking trip during the spring. The cost of the
shakedown trip is not included in the High Knoll event fee. Trips
