CANCELED: due to low registrations
Join us for a one night backpacking experience at Elliot Knob in
the George Washington National Forest. Experience the highest peak
in Augusta County and one of the highest peaks in the state, along
with waterfalls and great views from the summit. Participants will
prepare their meals, spend the night in a backcountry campsite, and
learn Leave No Trace camping principles and skills. This is a good
trip for beginning backpackers, as well as those with more
experience. It is 4 miles each way (out and back) for a total of 8
miles in two days.
Backpacks, tents, stoves, and
other equipment are provided, making this an economical way to
discover the joys of backpacking.
A mandatory planning
session will be held the weekend of March 30 and 31. The exact date,
time, and location of this planning meeting will be selected by the
event registrants.
