FLOAT YOUR BOAT: James River (Botetourt County)

This float is an easy class 1 river rapids from Buchanan to Arcadia in beautiful Botetourt County. This trip is appropriate for beginners as well as participants with experience. Kayaks, PFDs and other necessary gear is provided. Event is led by Adventurers coordinators trained in leading kayaking trips and river safety. Adults may only participate if space is available.

Time: 10 AM - 4 PM (may fluctuate slightly)
Location: James River in Botetourt County (Buchanan to Arcadia)
Who: Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors (11+ years or older)
Fee: $25/participant 
Min/Max Girls: 6/10
Badge/Patch included: no; optional Adventurers performance t-shirts for $15 (short-sleeve) or $20 (long-sleeve); optional previous t-shirts for $12 (short-sleeve); optional Adventurers bandanna for $5 (please indicate items and sizes on registration).

Note: Adults will only be accepted if spaces available are not filled by girls, and only with paddling experience. Please let us know on registration if you will be bringing your own boat and PFD; this is encouraged if you are more comfortable in your own gear. All adults participating must be registered Girl Scouts and background checked. There is a 275 lb. weight limitation recognized for kayaks.

Adventurers Scholarship
Through the generosity of donors, a scholarship fund has been established in honor of our group’s founder, Barbara Duerk, to help girls participate in Adventurers activities. Requests may not be more than $100/year, and each application will be considered on a case by case basis. Details, criteria and application for this scholarship fund can be found here .
