Camp Adventurers
Camp Theme:
Challenging You to Challenge Yourself
REGISTRATION OPENS: APRIL 1

Camp Adventurers is an older girl weekend camp open to girls ages 11-18. This camp offers older girls the opportunity to attend camp, not work at camp.

Friday night, Girl Scouts will set up their sleep spaces, have a flag ceremony, eat supper, and participate in a camp wide orienteering activity. Saturday, we'll start with a flag ceremony and breakfast. After making their bagged lunches, campers will spend their Saturday participating in one of four adventure activities with their patrol:

HIKING PATROL
This patrol will hike on the Appalachian Trail from Pearisburg to Angel's Rest, for some spectacular views of the New River and Wilburn Valleys. This is a challenging hike with 1,650 vertical feet of rise over a 1.5 mile distance, but worth it for the views at the top.

CAVING PATROL
This patrol will be visiting the New River Cave, where they will be led through this gem of Giles County by a member of Radford University Outdoors Programs. This activity will require the participants to be able to squat, crawl, and be comfortable in tight spaces.

CHALLENGE COURSE PATROL
This patrol will visit the campus of Virginia Tech to complete the Venture Out Challenge Course. The Venture Out Challenge Course and Portable Initiatives offer a variety of activities through a series of fun and unusual games and problem-solving obstacles. While completing this activity, participants learn valuable information about themselves, effectively working with one another, and functioning as a team.

CAMP SKILLS/CAMP COOKING PATROL
This patrol will be staying in camp on Saturday, but that doesn't mean they will be missing out on the fun. This patrol will be learning and applying practical camp skills like knot tying, lashing, safe kniFe skills, gourmet outdoor cooking, and various methods of fire building.

There will also be some downtime for campers to play games, complete arts and crafts projects, color, or just relax. Campers will play camp wide games, put on a skit at the Saturday night campfire, and sleep a second night in her tent. Sunday morning is a Scout's Own ceremony, more camp wide activities, reflection time, and program before our closing ceremony at 1:00 PM.
