Float Your Boat: Roanoke River (CANCELLED)

THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF SIGN-UPS

A 7.4 mile beginner-level kayaking trip in Roanoke County. This stretch consists of Class I rapids only. This trip is appropriate for beginners as well as participants with experience. Kayaks, PFDs and other necessary gear is provided. Event is led by Adventurers coordinators trained in leading kayaking trips and river safety. Adults may only participate if space is available.

Time: 10 AM - 4 PM (may fluctuate slightly)
Location: Roanoke River (Green Hill Park to Rotary Park)
Who: Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors (11+ years or older)
Fee: $25/participant 
Badge/Patch included: no; optional Adventurers patch available for $2; optional Adventurers performance t-shirts for $15 (short-sleeve) or $20 (long-sleeve); optional previous t-shirts for $12 (short-sleeve); optional Adventurers bandanna for $5 (please indicate items and sizes on registration).

Note: If water levels are too low on this river to float our boats, then we may change our float to another river location (such as the James River). If you are unable to travel to this new location, then refunds will be issued. 

Adults will only be accepted if spaces available are not filled by girls, and only with paddling experience. Please let us know on registration if you will be bringing your own boat and PFD; this is encouraged if you are more comfortable in your own gear. All adults participating must be registered Girl Scouts and background checked. There is a 275 lb. weight limitation recognized for kayaks.

Adventurers Scholarship
Through the generosity of donors, a scholarship fund has been established in honor of our group’s founder, Barbara Duerk, to help girls participate in Adventurers activities. Requests may not be more than $100/year, and each application will be considered on a case by case basis. Details, criteria and application for this scholarship fund can be found here. Adventurers is an action-oriented group of older Girl Scouts who are seeking exciting activities to challenge their capabilities, broaden their horizons, and increase their self-confidence. It is for girls age 11-17 and in grades 6-12.
