Go Outside Camporee 2019 has passed! We'll see you next year! In the mean time, use the information below for reference.
Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline invites troops and families to attend our 2019 Camporee at the Go Outside Festival, or “GO Fest,” at River's Edge Sports Complex in Roanoke. The festival is on Friday, October 18 through Sunday, October 20, 2019. The Girl Scouts Go Outside Camporee gives Girl Scouts the opportunity to earn badges and receive a fun patch while exploring outdoor art, discovering new outdoor adventures, and learning about how to care for the environment from Girl Scout staff, volunteers, and GO Fest vendors. Find out more about Roanoke’s exciting GO Fest here. Check out the customized Camporee Google Map here for more location information.
Come to Girl Scouts Go Outside Camporee for the entire GO Fest weekend or for Saturday only! All Girl Scouts who attend this camporee will receive badge passports to guide them through badge-earning activities hosted by festival vendors. Also, Saturday features camporee-exclusive outdoor art and camping skills activities for girls. By exploring the festival and participating in Saturday’s camporee activities, Girl Scouts can partially or completely earn two badges in one weekend (badges included in registration fees and will be distributed at check-in). Plus, Girl Scouts who camp for one or two nights will partially or completely earn a third badge (included in camporee overnight registration fee). Girls will also receive a special Girl Scouts Go Outside Camporee patch and sticker.
On Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m., Girl Scouts will host festival family campers from the community for s’mores and songs to introduce others to the traditions of Girl Scouts. Both overnight and Saturday-only Girl Scouts are invited to the Saturday’s s’mores program.
Finally, the council would like to invite Senior & Ambassador Girl Scouts, along with Cadette Program Aides (completed or in progress) to earn hours toward the Service to Girl Scouting bar by lending a hand at camping check-in, troop and family camping gear set-up, and Saturday night’s S’mores & Songs program. To sign up for a 1-2 hour Girl Scouts Camporee volunteer opportunity, please email email@example.com registering.
Read below for more information about the two registration options, camporee activities, and to find out what is included in registration.
Girl Scouts are welcome to attend the Girl Scouts Go Outside Camporee @ GO Fest on only Saturday, October 19, 2019 with their troops and/or families. For Girl Scouts, Saturday-only registration includes the camporee fun patch and sticker, two badges, the badge passport, access to camporee-exclusive outdoor art and camping skills activities, and s’mores on Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m. Please note that there are no meals provided for daytime participants. The festival hosts many food trucks and vendors, and there are several affordable restaurants within walking and driving distance from the festival site.

No other meals or snacks will be provided. Overnight camping participants are encouraged to bring snacks and meals as needed. Cold meals are preferred, but troops and families may bring camp stoves for cooking. Water will be available nearby for drinking and cooking. Keep GO Fest GREEN by bringing mess kits and reusable water bottles. Dishwashing stations and drying lines will be provided in the camporee area.
The festival hosts numerous food trucks and vendors all weekend, and there are many affordable restaurants within walking and driving distance of River’s Edge Sports Complex.
Please note that this event is for the whole family. Male attendees who are Girl Scout members will be able to camp in a designated camping area within the camporee area. All non-members will camp next to the camporee area in the festival’s general camping section.
Be prepared to be outdoors, rain or shine, with limited access to indoor spaces and shelters, unless weather conditions include severe rain, flooding, or storms. Wear your walking shoes. The festival has been condensed to the south side of the complex this year while the north side is under construction. However, parking remains on the north side, meaning ALL festival attendees will need to walk from the parking garage to the festival grounds (approx. 0.3 miles, 6-10 minutes). There will be a gear drop-off location closer to the camping area and handicap accessibility as needed. For more information, check the festival website.
Troops must have an Outdoor Education-trained volunteer or may buddy-up with another troop who is attending and has an Outdoor Ed-trained volunteer. Sign up for Outdoor Education training before the festival or email email@example.com to request connection to one of our trained volunteers to accompany your troop.
EMTs will be on-call for the Go Outside Festival itself. However, troop co-leaders must have health history forms completed and available for all camporee attendees, both overnight and Saturday-only.
The camporee will take place within a fenced baseball field, shared only with festival family camping. General festival camping (not families) will be in a separate location. Security guards patrol each night throughout the festival. Festival parking is in a designated, security-patrolled parking garage near the festival grounds. However, we remind you that we are not liable for stolen goods or possessions and ask that you keep all valuables on your persons throughout the festival.
