VIRTUAL – Sugar Hollow Day Camp: Session II
Unprecedented? Time of crisis? How about an opportunity? We are excited about engaging in ground breaking and innovative camping this year! Sugar Hollow Day Camp is working to develop our very first Virtual Camp to meet the changing needs of our community.
As a community service and support, Sugar Hollow Day Camp is offering FREE virtual camp this year. You do NOT need to be a registered Girl Scout to attend. Camp will include many of our beloved traditions, including singalongs, skill stations, and campfire! We have even customized activity options to meet differing schedules through the choice of self-paced activities and live events.
Camp Theme: Far Apart but Close at Heart
While Covid-19 is preventing us from doing our favorite camp activities in person, we’re going to do it online. We are committed to maintaining the quality of our programming and building our camp community. In the spirit of Girl Scout service, we will offer Virtual Camp for free, and we are opening it up to all girls, ages 5-17, who are interested. Below are the three tiers of our Virtual Camp and registration choices for you to register for the camp experience that best fits your family’s needs.
Virtual Camp Options:
- Virtual Camp: Bringing the Outdoors to You (Tier 1)
Online Modules will walk your camper and family through activities to earn our council Summer Camp Progression Patch Program. Skills include fire safety, cooking, health and safety, tools, knots, hiking, nature, ceremonies, songs, games, service, and friendship. Campers will get a checklist to track their progress and modules with tutorial videos and resources, as well as discovery activities, to develop their skills. These activities will be free, self-paced, and can be completed as many times as desired. We are offering unlimited spots for Virtual Camp.
- Live Events: Coming Together While Apart (Tier 2)
Optional, interactive digital events will supplement online module activities and bring our campers together. These events will follow our typically scheduled camp sessions, so you will select from Session 1: July 13-17, Session 2: July 20-24, or Session 3: July 27-31. Events will occur daily at 5:00 and will include small group discussions and sharing opportunities, sing-a-longs with our amazing staff, and a virtual campfire event Friday night for the whole family. These events will be free, live, and can be joined or skipped as many times as desired during the week(s) of your choice. We are offering 200 spots per week of live events. Links for the Zoom events will be emailed to campers the weekend before each session.
- Camp Kit: Keeping Traditions Alive (Tier 3)
For campers in the local Charlottesville, Virginia area
Optional supply kits can supplement online module activities and live events by providing campers with traditional camp materials, crafts, and mementos. The kits will include a SHDC 2020 shirt, dye for tie-dying the shirt, a picture frame and decorating supplies, outdoor craft/service project kits, and the Patch Kit (age-appropriate progression patch earned during the self-paced modules and a 2020 theme patch). These kits can be purchased for $25. Pickup options will be available at our normal bus stop locations in the Charlottesville, VA area. We are limited to 200 total kits based on our suppliers and staff.
- Patch Kit: Celebrate Your Skills
For campers throughout Virginia and the US
Optional patch kits will supplement online module activities and live events for campers who don’t get the camp kit. This patch kit includes the age-appropriate progression patch earned during the self-paced modules and the 2020 theme patch. (For local campers, the Camp Kit includes the patches from the Patch Kit.) These kits can be purchased for $5, and they can be mailed to you within our $2 USPS standard envelopes unless you are purchasing more than 3 at a time or adding additional products from our shop to your order.
- 2020 Shirt: Take the Fun Everywhere
For campers throughout Virginia and the US
Optional camp shirts are available as mementos for campers who don’t get the camp kit. This is a white, cotton shirt and will have a custom 2020 SHDC design on the front. These shirts can be decorated with tie-dye kits or fabric markers (neither included). Examples of annual designs and personal tie-dye patterns are shared in the product images. (For local campers, the Camp Kit includes a 2020 shirt.)
