Float Your Boat 2020: James River
Kayak 9-miles on the James River from Horseshoe Bend to Buchanan. This trip is appropriate for beginners as well as participants with experience. Kayaks, PFDs and other necessary gear is provided. Event is led by Adventurers coordinators trained in leading kayaking trips and river safety. Adults may only participate if space is available.
Date: Sunday, July 19
Time: 10 AM-5 PM (may fluctuate slightly)
Location: James River in Botetourt County (Horseshoe Bend to Buchanan)
Ages: 11 years old and up (Juniors-Ambassadors)
Girl Fee: $15/girl
Adult Fee: $15/adult (if space is available)
Patches: optional Adventurers patch available for $2; optional NEW Adventurers performance t-shirts for $12 (short-sleeve) or $15 (long-sleeve); optional previous t-shirts for $10 (short-sleeve); optional Adventurers bandanna for $5 (please indicate items and sizes on registration).

NOTE: Adults will only be accepted if spaces available are not filled by girls, and only with paddling experience. Please let us know on registration if you will be bringing your own boat and PFD; this is encouraged if you are more comfortable in your own gear. All adults participating must be registered Girl Scouts and background checked. There is a 275 lb. weight limitation recognized for kayaks.

Through the generosity of donors, a scholarship fund has been established in honor of our group’s founder, Barbara Duerk, to help girls participate in Adventurers activities. The fund is of limited availability and each application will be considered on a case by case basis. Details, criteria and application for this scholarship fund can be found here. Adventurers is an action-oriented group of older Girl Scouts who are seeking exciting activities to challenge their capabilities, broaden their horizons, and increase their self-confidence.
