Ready, Set, Kindergarten! Give Her a Great Start

Kindergarten Readiness

Your little girl is about to take a BIG step! Naturally, you want to do everything you can to prepare her to start kindergarten with confidence. That’s where Girl Scouts comes in—our kindergarten readiness course is FREE and open to all girls who will enter kindergarten this fall. Got a question or need some help?

Make New Friends is a one-week, 4-part virtual program series that provides opportunities to girls to strengthen four competencies as they enter kindergarten. This series allows her to connect with the same friends all week, as well as Girl Scouts staff who lead her through sessions around language & literacy, cognition, approaches to learning, and social and emotional learning.

FUN, FRIENDS & LEARNING
Meeting 1: Launch into Literacy
Language and Literacy is an important part of kindergarten readiness. Through storytelling and re-telling, your girl can identify major characteristics, setting, and basic story lines which increases her ability to react to words, and understand their meaning. Join us to have story time, and then lead your girl to draw a picture of herself and telling her story afterwards! The goal is to provide parents or caregivers an opportunity to help girls learn how to listen to a story, identify major characters, setting, and plot lines.

Meeting 2: Shoot for the Stars
Girls are little scientists! They are eager to observe and make discoveries about their worlds. An important part of kindergarten is learning how to use their senses to observe the world, discover how things work, and use their new knowledge to solve problems. During this meeting, we will begin exploring the sun, sky, and help girls to develop the ability to use their senses and solve problems.  Soon, girls will be ready to shoot for the stars when they enter kindergarten! The goal is for girls to use their senses to process the world around them, practice reasoning, and problem-solving skills, and show interest by asking questions about what they see and learn in this session.

Meeting 3: Spring into Science
Going into kindergarten, girls should be able to show interest in an idea or topic, and ask questions about what they are seeing. In this session, girls will learn by doing as they explore the world around them with curiosity and make new friends! Join us as we help prepare girls for their first big day of kindergarten. The goal is to help girls use their imaginations to act like animals and practice interacting with other girls, explore new ideas and gain courage to ask questions about what they see, which are essential skills girls will need as they enter kindergarten!

Meeting 4: Dreaming of Success
As a new kindergartener, girls will begin to see themselves as unique individuals who have their own abilities, emotions, and interests.  Join us as we help girls learn about persistence, talk about different emotions, and share their dreams with other girls!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Participants will need access to high speed internet, computer/laptop/tablet to join the workshop. Meetings will be virtual using Zoom. A Zoom link will be emailed to parents/caregivers after registration closes. Parents/caregivers should ensure they've enter the correct email address during registration.

All About Daisy Girl Scouts

What Daisies Do

Don’t we all wish we could look at the world through a Girl Scout Daisy’s eyes? Everything they do—from planting a garden to putting on a skit to proudly adding that first petal to their vest—sparkles with that "first time ever" newness! Along the way, they’ll use their Daisy exuberance to help others—and they’ll never forget how that feels. Every Daisy meeting is an adventure filled with giggles, energy, and excitement.

As a Daisy, she might:

face1_32 Gain new friends as part of a troop

flower_32Earn petals (the special Daisy version of badges earned by older Girl Scouts) as she embraces the Girl Scout Promise and Law

political-science_32 Make a difference in her community through a Leadership Journey

planet01_32 Sell cookies (and have fun doing it)
