Volunteer
Be A Girl Scout Volunteer!
Girl Scout volunteers come from all walks of life. Some are stay-at-home or working moms and dads who want more quality time with their daughters. Many are grandparents or retirees. Others are professional women or college students who may not have daughters, yet know the value of the Girl Scout experience.
Whatever your background, whatever your interest, whatever commitment your schedule permits, Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline needs your experience and energy to serve the increasing number of girls who are or want to be Girl Scouts.
All volunteers receive basic training for their position through adult learning opportunities and are required to complete any additional training designated as mandatory for the position. Training ensures that each volunteer has the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in her or his work.

Volunteer Opportunities
Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council adult volunteers receive many benefits from their Girl Scout experiences. These include enhanced career skills, parenting skills and sharing hobbies, adventures, knowledge and personal experiences with adults and girls. Become a Girl Scout volunteer today! Here are some of the positions we have available:
- Troop Leadership - You do not need special skills to be a troop facilitator, just a desire to work with girls. We provide you with training, resources and support! Girl Scout facilitators are a diverse group of all ages. Co-facilitator positions are also available so that troop leadership responsibilities can be shared.
- Recruiter/Organizer - Do you like to meet new people? Do you believe in the strength of the Girl Scout program? If yes, then become a recruiter. Help form new troops or groups of Girl Scouts. We want to reach every girl in grades K – 12 and we need your help!
- Day Camp Volunteer - Day camps are planned and operated by volunteers. It is only with your help and the involvement of other adults, that girls will have the chance to discover their own strengths, gain a greater appreciation of the outdoors and make new friends. This is an episodic opportunity.
- Media Messenger- Are you a journalism student or just a good communicator? Regional Media Messengers assist the Communications Department by reporting on local Girl Scout service projects and activities to the media. Writing skills are necessary.
- Fund Development Volunteer - Partner with other adults to help raise funds for Girl Scouting through a wide range of development activities.
- Special Skills Volunteer - Some women and men are recruited solely on the basis of their skills, knowledge or occupation. Share your special skills with girls, volunteers and council staff through workshops or training courses. This is an episodic opportunity. No prior Girl Scout experience is necessary.
- Trainer - Can you clearly communicate information to other people? If so, you might enjoy being a council trainer. Help provide learning experiences for Girl Scout volunteers so they can make a difference in girls’ lives.
