Lots Going On with Botetourt Service Unit
Girl Scout Troop 432 held its final cookie booth (for this year) on Sunday March 21, 2010 at the Kroger in Daleville. Once again, the girls collected donations for cookies to send to Army and Marine troops overseas. The troop collected close to 100 boxes for the troops!

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 432 traveled March 13th and 27th to Randolph Park in Pulaski for a day of dog sledding with the Siberian Husky Rescue. The girls rode on a dog sled, learned about Husky first aid and the history of dog running, made a dog sled craft, and talked about Balto, a Siberian Husky sled dog who led his team on the final leg of the 1925 serum run to Nome. The girls earned a Try-It patch from Alaska's council and donated dog items to the Siberian Husky Dog Rescue.

Brownie Troop 432 visited Daisy Troop 1018 to share what they have learned
about water this year as part of earning their "Share Water" badge. The
Brownie troop taught the Daisies how to save water and why it is important to
be advocates for water. All girls signed a pledge on what they promise to
do to save water.

Girl Scout Junior Troop 684 of Blue Ridge sponsored a lemonade stand at the Colonial Elementary School carnival. The troop is working on their Bronze Award, the highest award in their age level, by raising money for the Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, and Unicef to be used for Haiti Earthquake relief. The girls have raised nearly $200 so far.

Troop members are Audrey Stultz, Kaitlin Stultz, Mary Leweke, Tess Seibel, Emily Brooks, Michala Ballard, Claire Seibel, and Linsey Baker. Troop leaders are Melanie Leweke and Rebecca Brooks.

Girl Scout Troop 114 volunteered for opening flag ceremony, making wrist leis, and flower hairpieces at the Hawaiian Event at ICIMANI ADVENTURE CENTER. Nearly 160 girls turned out for the event.

May 1st, Daisy Troop 1018 and Brownie Troop 432 of Fincastle, VA attended Girl Scout Day at Douthat State Park. The girls listened to Appalachian folk tales, took a nature hike, learned about campfires, identified aquatic wildlife, and watched a blacksmith demonstration.

Girl Scouts of Botetourt Service Unit wish to congratulate Holly Hylton for selling the most cookies in the service unit. Holly sold 967 boxes of Girl Scout cookies! She is a member of Daisy Troop 958 and Liz Newell is her troop leader. Holly received a ‘Leap to Lead’ stuffed frog and a 900+ cookie patch for her efforts. Her favorite cookie is Thanks-a-Lot.
