Continuing on with the enthusiasm generated by The Great Girl Scout Hike of the Appalachian Trail, which celebrated 100 years of Girl Scouting, the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council can celebrate our 50th birthday by hiking on amazing trails right here in our own council! Help us identify 50 hikes throughout our council. If each of our service units/Girl Scout communities shares one or two of their favorite areas to hike within their local area, then we should come up with at least 50 hikes throughout the entire council region.
Girls, troops, leaders and parents can then get outdoors and Hike 50 for the 50th to celebrate 50 years of the Virginia Skyline Council serving Girl Scouts in central, southside, southwest and western Virginia! The “50” can be 50 miles or 50 minutes, 50 different hikes or hiking on 50 different days. Hikes that go to the summits of mountains will be included in a category called “Skyline Summits.” Other categories may be developed as well. Patches and certificates are in the works. There will also be a web page where you can record the trails and miles that you walked: gshike.org
