There are two easy steps to participate
STEP 1: Register by June 20 for the Girl Scout Voices Panel at www.girlscoutvoices.org (girls only – not adults; all age-levels of Daisies to Ambassadors; girls under the age of 13 will need parent/guardian permission, which is included as part of the registration).

STEP 2: On June 21, each registered girl will complete one brief “Help Make Girl Scouts Even Better” survey about her experiences in Girl Scouting. A separate survey link will be sent at that time to all girls who have registered.

To show our appreciation, ALL girls who complete STEP 1 will receive:
“Girl Scout Voices” patch
 chance to be one of 60 winners of a $25 Visa gift card

ALL girls who complete STEP 2 will receive:
 ”I Was Heard!” patch
 chance to be one of 60 winners of a $25 Visa gift card

Please note: Responses will remain completely confidential. Member names will not appear on the surveys. Council staff, troop leaders, and other girls will not know how members responded. All survey data will be processed and stored in a secure environment. Surveys are solely for research purposes related to Girl Scouts of the USA. Girls will not be marketed to, solicited or exposed to any form of advertisement as a result of participating. Girls under the age of 13 will need parental/guardian permission which is included as part of the registration.

The National Council Session is the Girl Scouts’ major governance meeting. The members of the National Council convene every three years to help shape the future of our Movement by voting on business proposals, reflecting on topics like women in corporate leadership positions and girl advocacy, and celebrating the Girl Scout Movement! The National Council membership includes delegates elected from each Girl Scout council and from USA Girl Scouts Overseas.

The GSVSC Board Development Committee is now accepting applications for the position of 2014-2017 National Council Delegates. Our National Council Delegates will represent Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline at the National Council Session to be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 16-19, 2014.

A single slate of candidates will be presented for election at the January Annual Meeting. The term will begin immediately following the Annual Meeting and end at the Annual Meeting in 2017. Applicants must be a Girl Scout adult or girl member at least 14 years of age at the time of election and a United States citizen.

We will be electing National Council Delegates and alternates. Expenses for delegates to attend the National Council Session will be paid for by Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council. Any member of Girl Scouts may attend the National Council Session as a visitor at their own expense. Visitor information will be available at a later date.

The Outstanding Leader Award
Recognize a leader or co-leader for the great work they do for Girl Scouts! The Outstanding Leader Award is a great way to say thank you to your favorite leader or assistant leader. After all, they make it possible for girls to be in a troop and experience all that Girl Scouting has to offer. The recipient will be listed in the council’s permanent files and will receive a lapel pin and attractive certificate signed by our council president as well as the CEO of Virginia Skyline. It is easy to nominate someone for this special recognition. The Outstanding Leader Award can be given at any time; there is no deadline for nominations. Complete a nomination form and ask two people associated with the troop to complete a letter-of-support form.

• You can drop your items off NOW at Starkey Road Self Storage during the following hours:
  • Tuesdays 10 AM – 12 PM
  • Thursdays 3 PM – 5 PM
• You can WAIT and drop off your items between April 16th – April 25th at our Tanglewood Mall location. To make a donation, go to the back of the mall and enter the marked door to the right of JC Penney. Drop off times:
  • M, T, W, TH: 10 AM – 2 PM
  • Fri, 4/19: 5:30-7:30 PM
  • Sat, 4/20: 8 AM – 2 PM
  • Wed, 4/24: 10 AM – 2 PM & 6-8 PM

• Consumer Product Safety Commission frequently recalled items — car seats, baby cribs, strollers, carriages, playpens, play yards, high chairs, children’s items containing lead
• Building Materials — toilets, lumber, concrete, bricks, stones, etc.
• Adult books — We will only be accepting children’s books
• Mattresses and box springs — Due to state laws, we are not allowed to sell these items

Note: The OneStop Re-Shop will accept Visa, MasterCard, cash and personal checks.

National Volunteer Appreciation Week: April 21-27

Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day is a day of appreciation for adult volunteers in Girl Scouting held on April 22 every year. Girl Scouts is an outstanding leadership organization for girls due to the exceptional effort put forward by our volunteers. Join us in celebrating all our wonderful adult volunteers during National Volunteer Appreciation Week and as we give a special shout out to Girl Scout Leaders on Leader Appreciation Day.
