CANCELLED: This weekend’s Wake-up with the Wild Ponies has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. It will be rescheduled in the spring.

Come see the WILD PONIES while backpack camping in one of Virginia’s most beautiful places. Beginner backpacking offered to girls 12 and up! There will be a four-hour training session in Roanoke prior to the trip that will show you everything you need to know for your first backpacking overnight trip — how to dress, how to pack, trail first aid, about food and supplies, leave no trace, and trail cooking. Then let’s go! You’re packed and ready to hit the trail for an overnight on the Appalachian Trail in the Mt. Rogers Recreation Area where wild ponies abound. No experience necessary. Must be willing to travel to Grayson Highland State Park for the trip early in the morning. We’ll even supply the backpack and the tent if you need them. NOTE: You must attend the training session on September 7, 2013 to participate in the overnight regardless of experience level.
