First Day Hike at Natural Bridge
Meet at National Bridge Visitor Center.
This First Day Hike event will start off with a 1.5 mile hike at 11 a.m. on Brick Mountain Trail. Learn about making root beer, producing flour from acorns, and historic stories of local trees and plants. We will then begin a 1 mile hike on the Cedar Creek Trail, Bridging the Gaps, at 1 p.m. Once owned by Thomas Jefferson, this is a sacred area for the Monocan Native Americans. During the guided hike under the bridge we will learn about Natural Bridge and the importance of the area.
Be sure to sign the First Day Hike Pledge here if you wish to participate in the state-wide First Day Hike Challenge. See State Park website through link for rules and regulations.
Note: Participants are encouraged to bring their families. Please remember to wear clothing appropriate for the weather, bring a water bottle and snacks, and wear sturdy hiking shoes. Plan on wearing something indicating you are affiliated with Girl Scouts for the photo contest—this can be a t-shirt, hat, bandanna, flag, etc. Participation in the photo contest is not required.
Participants may attend as individuals (with sponsor/adult/parent) or troops (with appropriate # of leaders/adults). Parent/guardian or leader will need to stay during the program.
