Adventures in Virginia State Parks: Going Coastal to Four State Parks
Travel with the Adventurers to Coastal Virginia!
The group will visit four VA State Parks and try out different activities at each. First Landing State Park is an area of beaches and cypress swamps --- we will explore both of these ecosystems on our own and with park rangers. Kiptopeke State Park sits on the Chesapeake Bay side of the Eastern Shore and offers opportunities for kayaking, hiking, birdwatching, crabbing, and more. One day will be spent exploring the park and another at Chincoteague Island. We will travel around the wildlife refuge by bike in search of some wild adventures (maybe even some wild ponies). Chippokes Plantation State Park will be the next stop where the group will do some hiking along the James River. The last stop will be at York River State Park where a ranger will guide the group on a canoe trip on a small tributary of the York River.
Lodging will be in bunkhouses or cabins on mattresses and the group will prepare most of their meals. Cost is all-inclusive. Only additional money needed will be for souvenirs or extra snacks. Special gear needed: 2 piece tankini swim suit, bug head net, rain jacket, water shoes, and lightweight long-sleeved shirt and trousers.
Group will depart from Lexington on June 10 at 1 PM and will return to the same location on Friday June 15 at 5:30 PM. There is the possibility of pick-ups and drop-offs along the I-64 corridor en route to and from the Tidewater area.
