About the Girl Scout Program

Fun, friendship and new adventures are what Girl Scouts is all about. Girls make new friends, challenge themselves, write their own stories, and take action to change the world for the better.

How? Through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience:

Girl-led: Girl Scouts follow their own lead, no matter their age.

Learning by Doing: Hands-on activities help them feel empowered to shape their own experience.

Cooperative Learning: With a tight-knit group of friends, Girl Scouts learn and grow together while cheering on each other.

Activities in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience focus on four key areas:

Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
Outdoors
Life Skills
Entrepreneurship

With the help of supportive adults and troop leaders who bring those processes to life, Girl Scouts:

Signature Programs & Events

Future Voter

This four-week series is designed to teach Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors the ins-and-outs of the voting process so that when the time comes they will be prepared to be actively engaged. Participants will learn about democracy and how they can be involved in local, state, and national elections going on right now. Guest speakers will discuss the role of elected officials at the local, state, and federal level, the influence that elections and voters have over these positions, and answer questions about the election process and elected offices. This year's series takes place on Mondays: Oct. 12, Oct. 19, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. MORE INFO HERE

Girl's and Ghouls

Join us for a day filled with ghoulish Halloween fun! Get into the Halloween spirit with pumpkin decorating, games, crafts, glow dance party, and other spooky fun. Our 2026 event is October 24-25 at Camp Sugar Hollow near Charlottesville. MORE INFO HERE

Cookie Rally

A fierce and fun way to kick-off cookie season Rallies excite Girl Scouts for cookie season and help build skills essential to running a successful cookie business. From learning about cookie qualities, to setting goals and marketing on social media, Girl Scouts of all ages will learn tips to reach their customers and boost their businesses. MORE INFO TO COME

Tough Cookie

Join us for the sweetest race in the Roanoke Valley! This annual event supports Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council and we are excited to challenge participants again on the cross-country course at Greenfield Recreation Park in Botetourt County. Our 2027 race takes place on Saturday, March 20. MORE INFO HERE

Mall Madness

Get ready night owls for the best overnight fun at the mall: March 13-14, 2027, at Valley Mall in Harrisonburg! The night consists of crafts, games, music, shopping (some stores will be open very late for the girls), and LOTS of forestry fun! Registration for both girls and adults includes admission, snacks, t-shirt, patch, activities, photo booth, and a DJ. There will be additional activities for Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts. MORE INFO TO COME

Operation H.E.R. Mental Health Summit

This event takes place on Sunday, April 25, 2027, and is an opportunity for girls and adults to come together to learn more about mental wellness, including how bullying can affect emotional well-being, from experts in the field while being in a fun, supportive, and uplifting environment. Spellbound Spring Spectacular

Experience a day of enchantment as we return for our second year at Girl Scout Camp Sacajawea in Lynchburg for Spellbound Spectacular on May 1 & 2, 2027. Embark on a magical journey filled with activities such as alchemy, elixirs, treat-making in the Enchanted Sweet Shoppe, Quadball, and so much more! This year, we have two events: Spellbound Springtime Spectacular for Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors AND Spellbound Springtime Sleepover for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. MORE INFO TO COME

Girl Scouts Love State Parks

It’s time to lead the way at your favorite state parks and help create a better planet for all! How? By heading out to explore your local state parks during this year’s Girls Scouts Love Virginia State Parks Weekend! During the second weekend of September each year, you can participate in self-guided tours, family hikes, watersports, stargazing, service projects, and more. End of Summer S'mores Day Challenge

S'mores Day is celebrated each year on August 10. Did you know this camp classic was basically invented by Girl Scouts? In 1927, the first s'mores recipe was printed in the Girl Scout handbook, “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.” Legend says the name “s'mores” came about because everyone who tasted the gooey campfire concoction asked for “some more.” Join us August 1-10 for a virtual challenge! Girl Scout Night at the Salem RidgeYaks

Join us for Girl Scout Night at the Salem RidgeYaks (formerly Salem Red Sox) in 2027 (date TBD). Bring your friends and family for a night of baseball, fireworks, family movie, and an overnight campout on the field. Bring your camping chairs, picnic blankets, snacks and baseball gloves for a night of Girl Scout fun! MORE INFO TO COME FOR 2027

Junior Jam

This is a camporee just for Junior Girl Scouts and takes place every two years. Girls will experience Girl Scout traditions and high adventure activities. Lodging will be in cabins at Camp Horizons in Harrisonburg. OUR NEXT JUNIOR JAM WILL BE IN 2028
