Calling all Outdoor Chefs! Bring your hearty appetites…we’ll be cooking up a storm at camp this summer! Join us as we learn and share new outdoor culinary skills, well-seasoned with Girl Scout favorite recipes. Sugar Hollow traditions will continue: we will wade in the creek, enjoy nature, tie-dye, hike, sing around the campfire, and learn outdoor skills as we make new friends at camp.

 

Girls are grouped according to their January 2013 Girl Scout level and will earn the new Legacy Cooking Badge and a special patch from the GSVSC summer camp progression program. Unit capacity varies depending on level; some units DO reach capacity prior to registration closure.

Date & Time
Session I: July 8-12, 2013; 9 AM – 3:30 PM daily (with optional overnight Thursday)

 

Overnight?
Thursday night is an optional overnight for each session. There is no additional fee or registration for the overnight. No transportation will be provided Thursday evening or Friday morning. Parents will be responsible for transporting their daughters to and from camp at those times.

 

Campers’ Ages
Girls who completed grades K–6 in the 2012–13 school year may attend as campers. Kindergartners are limited to one session. The 6th grade unit will be held July 8–12.

 

Camp Leadership Programs
Camp Program Assistant (CPA) (grades 7 and up)
Must submit CPA application, Camp Registration and Health History Form (#2029 & #2072), CPA fee and complete the CPA training session on July 2, 2013 from 6–10 PM at Camp Sugar Hollow.

 

Counselor-in-Training (CIT) (grades 8 and up) (formerly known as Counselor Apprentice)
Must submit CIT application, Camp Registration and Health History Form (#2029 & #2072) and complete GSVSC’s CIT training course. There is no CIT fee at camp, but there is a training fee of $35.

 

Counselor-in-Training II (CIT II) (grades 10 and up, and have served at a GSVSC summer camp as a CIT) (formerly known as Junior Counselor)
Must submit CIT II application and Camp Registration and Health History Form (#2029 & #2072). There is no CIT II fee.

 

All experienced youth and adult volunteer staff are invited to assist with the CPA training on July 2, 2013, from 6–10 PM at Camp Sugar Hollow. All experienced youth and adult staff are invited to attend the Youth Staff Campfire and Overnight immediately following the July 2nd CPA training. Contact the camp director if you would like to serve in one of these youth staff positions.

 

Youth Staff members are expected to stay for the Thursday overnight during the camp session and must attend the pre-camp staff planning session in May (exact date TBA, refer to gsvsc.org/calendar or contact the camp director). Youth Staff members must be registered with GSUSA.

 

Adults interested in serving as Adult Staff Volunteers should contact the camp director for an application. Five-day Adult Volunteer camper discount: 1st camper daughter fee discounted at 50%; 2nd camper daughter fee discounted at 25%. Adults must submit their own paperwork, including Health History Form (#2072), when registering their camper. Adult staff members are expected to stay for the Thursday overnight during the camp session and must attend the pre-camp staff planning session in May. Adult Staff Volunteers must be registered with GSUSA. New leader training and camp staff planning session dates will be announced.

 

Cost
$120 Camp fee for grades K–6
$60 Camp fee for CPAs
$12 Membership fee for non-Girl Scouts

 

Deadlines
Registration Opens April 1, 2013 (for girls registered with GSUSA 2012–13; no postmarks before 4/1); April 15, 2013 (for girls not registered with GSUSA 2012–13; no postmarks before 4/15)
Registration Closes June 1, 2013 (or when capacity is reached)
Scholarship Deadline June 1, 2013

 

Transportation
Bus transportation will be provided from the following locations: Pantops, Rio Hill, Walker School, Olivet Church (2575 Garth Rd.), and Piedmont Store. Transportation must be selected at time of registration.

Please fill out BOTH sides of the Summer Camp Registration Form (#2029). A copy of your camper’s current immunization record may be attached, but do not attach any other additional pages. All information must be included or your registration will be returned, and you will be required to resubmit it. Units are likely to reach maximum capacity prior to registration deadline.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
$25 of the camp fee is non-refundable after June 1, 2013. Refund requests must be made in writing. After camp starts, refunds will only be made at the discretion of the camp director.

 

Note
Registration will be confirmed by e-mail. A paper confirmation letter including bus pick-up/drop-off times and important information will be mailed a few weeks before camp.

 

Our camp uses 3 buses to serve 5 stops. No bus stop changes allowed after June 1st, as buses will be reserved and routes set at that time. You must use the same bus stop morning and afternoon.
