COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING
for Teen Girls Interested in Leadership in Summer Camps

WHAT IS IT?
Counselor-in-Training (CIT) is the second course in the camp leadership program. It includes outdoor skills, teaching techniques, and methods for working with campers. The course is for girls who want to work at day, twilight, weekend, and resident troop camps. It meets the requirements for those working on the CIT pin. Attendance at the entire weekend is required. This is a working weekend – girls will have very little free time. This one-time training allows you to work as a CIT at any Girl Scout camp. Additional camp-specific training may be required by each individual camp.

WHO CAN GO?
Currently registered Girl Scouts in the eighth grade or above, or the equivalent. It is recommended that girls have earned the Cadette Program Aide Award or have prior camping experience before attending the CIT course.

SNOW?
If a course is canceled because of weather, participants will be contacted and asked to attend one of the other scheduled courses.

Please arrive on time between 6 and 7 PM Friday night and plan to stay for the entire weekend— pickup is at noon on Sunday. Please eat dinner before you arrive at camp. Your meals on Saturday as well as breakfast on Sunday will be provided (no lunch on Sunday).

You will need to bring with you:

  • Unbreakable cup for hot or cold drinks and/or water bottle
  • Drip bag with mess kit and utensils
  • Snacks to share for the weekend
  • 2L drink bottle with your name on it for the weekend (optional)
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather and spending time outdoors. Spring can be very warm and very cold all in the same day!
  • Jacket, hat, gloves—in case it is cold
  • Sweat pants and a sweat shirt or pajamas to sleep in – this is not something you will be wearing during the day.
  • Rain gear. Activities will go on rain or shine. It is too cold in the spring not to have a poncho or rain coat for rain—do not come to camp without this item!!!
  • Sleeping bag and pillow
  • Personal toiletry items (showers are available)
  • Flashlight with good batteries and bulb (cell phones do not give sufficient light)
  • Pen/pencil
  • GS Training Record card (if you have one)
  • Guitar/Song books (optional)
  • Camera (optional)
  • Any prescription or OTC medication for the weekend
  • Lots of energy and enthusiasm

Cell phones must be turned off during the entire weekend. Electronic music devices can only be used when permitted by trainers. We are not responsible for damage to cell phones or electronic music devices.

See you at CA Training!
