AD-VEN'TUR-ERS (ad ven'cher ers) n.
- An action-oriented group of girls, ages 11-17, who are seeking exciting activities to challenge their capabilities, broaden their horizons, increase their self-confidence, and build long-lasting friendships.
- Young adults +20 years old who lead events.
- Old ladies (& men) who refuse to grow up, to plan & coordinate fun stuff.
The Adventurers was started in 1986 in the Roanoke Valley by Girl Scout Leader Barbara Duerk, who wanted to give her teenage daughter and her friends something unique and challenging to do in Girl Scouting. As a way to retain teenage Girl Scout membership, the Adventurers began providing activity resources for troop leaders and opportunities for girls who were not registered with a troop. Adventurers was a success by offering unique adventures and opening up opportunities for girls to experience something out of the ordinary --- whether it be rock climbing, kayaking, quilting, mountain biking, car tune-ups, or international travel.
This is still done today, years later you can see some of the ways by checking the calendar.
To participate in the events you made need some of these forms.
